명동 국내 여행 가볼만한곳 외국인 친구 초대 진심인 편 크리스마스 연말 기념

명동. 사람도 많고 음식점도 많고 건물도 많습니다. 개인적으로 ‘명동’ 하면 외국인 친구들이 여행 왔을 때 가이드를 했던 곳입니다. 심지어 돈도 없고 너무 힘이 들어서 무기력에 빠질 때마다 혼자 자주 찾곤 했던 곳입니다. 그래서 여기저기 기억이 많이 남아있습니다. 크리스마스, 연말, 길거리음식 등 거리 위 추억도 정말 많이 있고요.

오늘은 서울 중구 한복판 위치한 명동 소개하고자 합니다. 앞서 신세계백화점 롯데백화점 본점 소개했습니다. 이번에는 일상의 명동, 크리스마스 연말 이슈는 겸사겸사한 일반인이 평소에 다녔던 명동 소개하겠습니다.

너무 힘들고 무기력해서 자주 찾던 동네

처음 명동 접한 건, 어릴적 드라마 야인시대 보면서 알게 되었습니다. 그리고 실제로 명동 찾게 된 것은 대학생 시절부터 였던 걸로 기억합니다.

당시 돈도 없고, 갖은 고생은 다 하면서 보내다가, 언젠가부터 탈수현상 겪듯 완전히 번아웃, 탈진 했었습니다.

막상 방바닥에 붙어서 아무것도 못 하게 될 때, 어디를 나가려니 돈이 들고, 조금이나마 쉽게 갈 수 있는 곳이 어딜까 싶어서 택한 곳이 일요일 명동 이었어요.

명동 하면 명동성당, 일요일 명동성당 미사 보고 서울시청 도서관 넘어가서 자기계발도 했었죠. 마음이 심란할 때는 시청 주변을 걷기도 했습니다.

그렇게 명동과의 인연이 시작되었습니다. 항공사 직장에 들어가서 쳇바퀴 같은 일상 보내던 시절에는, 종종 명동 나들이 겸 혼밥 하러 자주 왔었습니다.

중국인 친구, 조카랑 함께 놀러 와서 우연히명동 여행 가이드

대학교 4학년 일 때부터 항공사 재직 당시, 학업적인 환경과 직업적 환경 덕분에 외국인 친구를 두루두루 만날 수 있었습니다.

한 번은, 중국 상해 출신 친구가 있었는데 조카랑 같이 놀러와서 명동 여행 가이드 했던 적이 있습니다. 가이드 라고 했지만 당시에는 길 안내, 가벼운 의사소통 수준이었습니다.

K-POP 대세 인기 따라 여기 저기 많이 보여주고, 가고 싶다고 미리 보고 온 장소를 같이 가주는 수준에서 많은 시간을 보냈습니다.

일본인 친구, 결혼식 들렸다가 가볍게 밥 먹으러 함께 명동 먹방

기억이 납니다. 오랜만에 연락 온 일본인 친구 지인의 결혼식이 한국에서 열렸어요. 지방 도시에서 있던 찰나 함께 결혼식 참석하고 서울 명동 근처로 올라왔어요.

저 포함 3명이 있었는데 마침 저녁을 못 먹었던 터라, 명동 어느 치킨집에서 치킨 먹고 헤어졌던 기억이 있습니다.

또한, 다른 날에는 ‘한국 여행’ 처음인 일본인 친구 역시, 명동 얘기를 해서 ‘진짜 명동이 유명한 동네구나’ 싶던 적이 몇 번 있습니다.

여러 날 여기저기 들린 명동 맛집, 친구들이 돌아간 후에도 별도로 몇 번 간 적이 있습니다.

서울 중구 명동 길거리, 그 거리 위에서

생각해보면 혼자서 명동 방문한 적도 꽤 있고, 자의 아닌 타의에 의해, 외국인 친구들에 의해 명동 여행 하게 된 적도 꽤 있습니다.

그만큼 명동, (꼭 크리스마스 연말 아니어도) 이 곳은 예나지금이나 잊혀지지 않는 도시 입니다.

우리는 힘들었어요. 다들 기억하실 거예요. 온 도시가 멈추어버린 시기를 말이죠. 당시 사회적 거리두기 되도록 고립된 생활 지향 원칙의 라이프스타일이 모든 걸 바꿨습니다.

명동 거리 , 그 시기가 제가 명동에 대한 공백기를 가진 거의 유일하지 않나 싶습니다. 우연히 그 동네를 지날 일이 있어서 사진 남겼습니다.

네, 그 당시 명동거리 는 이렇게 한산했습니다. 지금으로서는, 얼마 지나지 않은 것 같은데 상상하기 힘들죠? 명동의 모든 거리가 거의 이랬는데, 이런 모습은 저도 처음 봤습니다.

명동거리 에서 여러 추억이 많은 저로서는 낯선 이질감 느껴지는 거리의 모습, 그동안 나의 추억도 역사 속으로 사라지는 기분이 들었습니다.

다시 회복한 명동 길거리, 순환버스 타고 반가운 얼굴로 마주하다

코로나 시기로 모두가 멈춘 그 날들이 지나고, 올해 여름 초저녁 쯤 서울 노랑풍선 시티투어 버스 타고, 활력 있는 명동거리 를 다시 보게 되었습니다.

명동을 자주 가보신 분들은 여기가 어디인지 한 눈에 알아 보시지 않았나요? 네, 롯데백화점 본점 맞은편, 명동 거리 초입 입니다.

빠르게 달리는 노랑풍선 시티투어 버스 타고 스쳐지나가듯이 본 장면이라, 이 때는 자세히 찍지는 못 했지만, 그럼에도 코로나 시기랑 많이 다른 모습인 건 알 수 있었습니다.

시간이 흐르고 어느새 연말, 사람 많고 감성 있는 명동 크리스마스

노랑풍선 시티투어 버스 탔던 날 이후, 명동에 갈 일이 몇 번 더 있었고 (거의 사진을 남기지 못 했습니다), 거의 자유 여행객 모드로 명동여행 나선 건 올해 12월 이었습니다.

옛날 생각도 많이 나고, 외국인 친구와 함께 했던 명동에 대한 기억이 되살아나고, 이제는 ‘술’ 마시면 해장이 반드시 필요한 30대 초중반 나이 아저씨가 되어버렸지만. 여전히 명동은 명동 이었습니다.

★Most foods are not snacks enjoyed in Korea.
(Excluding some items such as kimbap, tteokbokki, japchae, egg bread, etc.)
★Some are Korean. But I don't think Koreans sell it.
★World snack stores are very expensive. I was surprised. It's convenient, but be sure to compare it to convenience stores.

Most Koreans don't buy or eat on this street.
It's worth considering if you're really hungry, but it's expensive.
It is really expensive for snacks.

The maps, vast subway system, districts & information provided is extremely helpful. I recommend making this one of your FIRST stops, as you’ll find the English speaking person easing you into the transition of learning about traveling in Korea. Buy a magnifying glass to read the subway line, names & stop-exit numbers.

Not enough English translations brochures. Other than that, lots of informations can be found here for Tourists. They sell souvenirs as well but not much collections.

The staff is so nice and they can help you out with anything. The place has tons of maps and pamphlets in different languages. There were also BTS standees when we visited.

Emily and Allie were really helpful, they printed out photos of the actual street from maps for us which made it really easy to identify the restaurants we wanted to visit. They also gave us cute calendars after asking us to do a super easy quiz. Thanks Emily n Allie!

Staff are not very friendly. I walked in, and there were three ladies sitting at the front, and not one of them greeted me. They just looked at me and then looked away. There is some good information there, lots of pamphlets. There is a small gift shop, and I did buy a couple of key rings. Ok place, but they need to focus on being friendlier, even if it IS Korea.

길거리 돌아다니다가 갑자기 화장실 가고 싶을 때가 있을 수 있잖아요? 거의 모든 여행이 그렇죠. 화장실 한번 가고 싶은데 또 비싼 돈 주고 어디 가기는 좀 그렇고 말이죠.

Lots of high end stores in one place which is great. Purchased from Hermes and Chanel at this location. Hermes had a decent selection of shoes and Chanel had the new 24C Chanel 22 mini in stock which I was so happy about! Great place to do some shopping for VAT refund. Note anything over $5k must get receipt on the second floor then get inspected at the airport for the refund. Felt some of the store staff was a bit snooty so can’t give 5 stars.

A wide variety of luxury brands to shop at in this department store. There is also a wide variety of food, especially at the restaurants and food market at the basement.

Also, there are also beautiful Christmas lights and a beautiful Christmas presentation on the LCD screen outside the mall.

If you're looking for luxury shopping, Lotte Myeongdong is probably the best use of your time and effort. It's connected to the train station underground, and you have a lot of hustle and bustle happening all at once.

Their food court, food avenue, at the basement, is super comprehensive and affordable. We got ourselves a kul-guksu noodle set for 8k KRW, and we couldn't finish it. Very fresh produce, like what you'll find at a Japanese Takashimaya.

Many big brands are also here, so once you're done eating, you can access all the many brands all at once. All, without needing to leave the mall.

Even though it was the weekend, there weren't many people, perhaps because it was the first time, so it was easy to concentrate.

Monet. It's a different painting style from Van Gogh, so it definitely has a different feel. People often say it feels like tarot cards. It is certain that you can see a variety of beautiful pictures with Alforce Mucha's unique drawing style.

I went to see the Monet exhibition.
It was edited with video, not pictures, so it was easy to understand and fun. It's a bit pricey, but I think it's worth a visit.

This is a place that plays videos about Monet. 30,000 won was spent for two people, and the video and photo time ended in just under an hour. The video itself is beautiful and magnificent, but the cost-effectiveness is the worst.
If you have a lot of money, a lot of time, and want to have a unique experience, I recommend going.

The building is beautiful, no doubt. The interior ceiling and chandeliers are also nice. The museum is free, and you can walk right in. No food or drinks are allowed, and there are no waste bins for you to get rid of your trash before you enter. If you're like most people, you like money, however this museum is probably not for you. But if you like money, in the sense that you like the theory behind it, the etymology of the word, the economics of currency in international trade, then you might find it interesting.

Though I only experienced the exterior of the Bank of Korea Money Museum during my visit in February, the museum's historical significance and purpose resonated strongly. The architectural elegance of the building hinted at the wealth of knowledge it holds within its walls. This place opened in 200. This year 2023, the Museum commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Bank of Korea. There are plenty of rooms with well-presented interactive games which makes this museum a place where you can take your children, they will not be bored. it's free entrance. Have a cafe shop at the first floor.

Wonderful small and free museum detail Korean and world currencies. It took us about 30 minutes to see all the exhibits, but you could spend more time here. They do have some hands on children exhibits also. Enjoy!!!!!!

Nanta Show is really a must-see drama when visiting Seoul. It is full of color, fragrance, and you can enjoy it with audiences from all over the world without knowing Korean. The actors on the stage perform very entertainingly and interact with the audience from time to time. It is recommended to buy tickets in advance, there are three shows a day. About 90 minutes.

Huge market. Hairtail food alley is something unique. Most are selling fishes. Minumum cost was 10,000 won. Grilled mackerel was actually fried mackerel. Dried anchovy is a must item to buy. It was not salty at all and very fresh.
Highly recommended to go inside the building at level 2 for brooch and jewelleries.

Noodle alley is tasty and cheap. Space is tight but the restaurants are very welcoming. For dessert, stop at one of the street side donut shops for a fresh, warm donut twist lightly coated with sugar. Guard your purse or wallet with exceptional care, as this is an extremely crowded area frequented by tourists.

When shopping, prices for commodity items are almost always negotiable. To illustrate, the chopsticks shown had a starting price of 10,000 won (about $9) per package. The final price was 11,000 won for two packages...probably still overpaid. You may get a gruff "NO DISCOUNT" in response, but simply move on to the next stall which is likely selling the exact same item. (Actual results may vary, blah, blah, blah.)

This place is cool. The vendors are nice. Not pushy and very helpful. I found all items priced but I was given a discount so I’m sure you could haggle. There is so much to see inside and out. The aisles are tight inside but there things to buy on all four levels. I bought a baseball hat and some jewelry.

Namdaemun Market is the largest market in Seoul. It is full of shops and stalls selling all kinds of goods including clothes, shoes, hats, household items, utensils, souvenirs, ginseng wine, etc.

There are many food and drinks stall too, offering delicious local dishes, traditional cakes and snacks. A few stalls are so popular that there always a queue of customers waiting.

It is among the must-visit places in this city. It opens early in the morning and remains open till the evening.

-Definitely worth a visit if you are here. There are two main streets that sells food and other stuffs like clothing shoes etc and even ginseng shops.
-If you are nearby and don't know where the main street is look out for a tourist guide wearing red color that is able to guide you in many different languages.

-There are not alot of places that has seating so you most likely need to stand and eat. Some coffee shops have outdoor seating but you need to purchase a drink before you can sit outside their shop.

It's a massage chair cafe. I used the 160-minute sleep course for 24,000 won. Coffee and drinks are included in the sleep course.
The massage was just so-so.
I don't know if the person guiding me was part-timer or the boss, but it wasn't that he wasn't friendly, but it seemed like he was forcing himself to hold back his frustration. However, he smiled and was really kind to the foreign guests.
I think it’s a place Koreans shouldn’t go to.

When I took an early morning flight, my body felt more tired than I expected.
Since I was not feeling well to begin with, I was unable to wait until my next appointment.
I was looking for a place where I could take a nap,

There are many massage parlors in Myeong-dong, but the quality is low (I had a massage experience in Myeong-dong before), and I don't want to spend money and have a bad experience when I'm tired, including the staff's treatment. I decided to have a massage in a massage chair.

I think it was 50 minutes and 17,000w with one drink.

The result was a hit! ! !
It's a massage chair, so there are limits, but the quality is constant, for better or worse. It was cheap and refreshing, which was great!
Also, I thought this was a better value for money as there are massage chairs that massage a wide range of areas including hands, feet, head, back, shoulders and hips.

The fruit juice I chose after the massage also contained fruit pulp, which was surprisingly authentic and good!

I want to go again when I'm tired.

Because it had snowed, the floor was a bit slippery.
I think that Korea has once again joined the ranks of advanced countries as Seoul city officials come out and speak safely and citizens also watch the light festival in an orderly manner.
The sky was clear, and the moon in the night sky was shining brightly. I had a nice walk with my family. The night street in Gwanggyo was really pretty, and I had a great conversation with the kids at a historic place.

A very good place to visit the parks and water flow designs in the city. The area is very clean and has enough space for people and travelers to walk around and rest. Bicycles can be rented for cycling and exercise. It is an even more refreshing experience in autumn.

This is a beautiful stream running through downtown Seoul. There was a festival on in Seoul while we were there. The theme appeared to be around books and reading. Cushions placed every metre along the stream (2 together) with a basket with books and a lantern in between. Relaxing music was played by a DJ and the mood was setting for a very relaxing afternoon. Love it!

We're catholic so even when traveling we like to attend mass , we went to this beautiful cathedral in seoul Korea. The service was lead by the bishop of seoul.

It's been a while since I visited, and it seems like the space has been filled up nicely. A cafe, Starbucks, and a cute fancy/stationery art box are located within the bookstore. A big and fancy bookstore, with nearly half of the space dedicated to kids books and toys. It is definitely a place to bring the little ones. The kid's section has not just books but vending machines and a mini area for lounging. The grown-ups side has gifts, tech, and a stationary area.

The most incredible ramen at a low price. Very simple menu, not over complicated with unnecessary choices. It is a hole in the wall place with adorable sticky notes all over the wall and ceiling left by customers. Mostly locals in here, and the owners are very sweet. The restaurant is named after the alley where this kind of ramen came from. Overall, a worthy choice. Affordable, yet complex in flavour profile and an enjoyable meal.

First time I went, I went around 8:30pm and it was closed. They close kinda early. The taste of the tteokbokki itself was unique, more garlicky than just spicy. There were real garlic bits. However, I was looking for the odeng, but there was none so that was a bit disappointing. I went upon Doobydobap's recommendation so I had high expectations. It was okay, not bad.

I can definitely say that the seasoning level of the tteokbokki here is different from other tteokbokki. The tteokbokki here is basically garlic tteokbokki, and the aroma and taste of garlic are well incorporated into the seasoning, so it is bound to be delicious to Koreans. When you take a bite of a well-seasoned rice cake, the first thing that comes to mind is the seasoning from famous stir-fried octopus restaurants (such as Lee Kang-sun's Silbi House or Seorin Octopus). The texture of the red pepper powder is still present in the sharply spicy seasoning, so it feels dry, but it feels like eating less spicy stir-fried octopus seasoning. It seems spicy, but it tastes sweet at the same time, making it highly addictive. The side menu here, gimbap, fried food, and dumplings, are ordinary, but must be ordered. Because you will feel strongly that you don’t want to leave any tteokbokki seasoning behind. A place you must visit before you die! (Next to Hadonggwan in Myeongdong)

Tteokbokki was pretty good! It's garlicky and different than your typical tteokbokki so it's worth a try. You need to order at least 2 servings if you want to pay with a credit card

It's rice cake and the sauce is very rich.

A small restaurant in the middle of the meongdong market. Tasty food and the lady at the counter is so fast and pro. The tteokbokki I had here was but sweet and not as fiery as I had it in the night market are but good nevertheless. You can also get dumplings and fish cakes.

As a self-professed tteokbokki shop curator, this is probably the best tteokbokki I’ve ever eaten. It is much better than the night market carts by a long shot, and you’ll be lucky if they haven’t sold out by the late afternoon. Definitely get the holy trifecta of tteokbokki, oden & gimbap - you won’t regret it! The oden broth is spicy and savoury, much better than any others I’ve tasted in Seoul.

10.5.23 - needed a quick bite for the fam. Short like that moved fast. The ajummas were nice, fast, and, always smiling.

We got the bacon sandwich and the ham special for a total of 7400 KRW. The bread wasn't as toasted enough to have a slight crunch. The eggs are made to order. Overall it leaned toward the sweet side, but we prefer more savory.

Good for a try, but only going back if no other option.

Delicious Korean street toast. Had the bulgogi. Just what I needed on a drizzly afternoon. Could sit inside, though there were only 6 seats. Service was quick. The bulgogi toast sandwich came witha lovely sauce and lots of cabbage. Easy to eat as it is presented in its own little paper holder. Great snack when you need something quick.

My favorite Korean toast~ Love the sweet sauce they use in the sandwich and the egg with corn! This outlet has longer opening hours than the other Myeongdong outlet. tried this on September 23rd during a weekend morning. It’s crowded during the weekend. Early in the morning, the queue starts. tried the bulgogi special, and it is tasty. The sauce is delicious, making the toast flavorful. This is the only takeout kiosk on Myeongdong street. It’s better to try it on a weekday when there’s less crowd.
Service wise, below expectation to be honest.

We’ve had the Isaac Toasts straight after arrival from the Incheon Airport and they were so tasty!!! 🥪 Had read on the internet that they’re an iconic thing for breakfast in South Korea 😍🇰🇷 Very reasonably priced and super fresh 😋 We’ll be back for sure soon!

Nuggets test as usual in every city we been to, and it was a decent one! At 3,500 LRW for 6 pieces it’s definitely more affordable versus where we came from.

⏰ they do close their counters 5-10 minutes before closing hours though, so do take note if you are looking to get some light treats after dinner

It's sooo busy! Love the ordering screens but they don't take cash. The staff are not fluent in english so don't expect to be helped in English that's what the ordering screens are for. Also even if your a foreigner you can download the Korean version of the McDonald's app and they have great discounts.

Very nice place, if you get there before 10:30 A.M they have special morning dish. Its 2 pancakes with muffin, egg, butter, sausage burger, potato snack and soft drink. Very testy and its only 6,200 won. I really like it 🙏🏻😊
I will mention that until 10:30 A.M they don't have normal burger with beef or chicken.

I have visited many McDonald's stores in the world, I have not seen such a service, I ordered a Big Mac in the first place, and I felt that I was still hungry, so I ordered a chicken burger, and I was shocked that the chicken was so old that I felt a tickle in my mouth.

And when I asked a lady inside the kitchen that the chicken was too grilled and I couldn't chew it, and in addition to that it was old. Not only that she was rude because I am a foreigner, but she was even more rude to a Pakistani girl who I think is a Muslim when I asked her for a chicken sandwich without bacon. after i asked her three times that the chicken is too roasted, on the one hand, and old on the other, but she replied that it was chicken.

I informed the manager, and he told me that he would change the burger for me, and I waited about fifteen minutes only to change the burger, the taste of everything had changed and I didn't want to eat. I took pictures of it.

Good place, good location within Myeongdong night market. Was my first experience having spicy chicken burger which is so Korean taste, and it's nice. Good option if you get hunger while shopping at Myeongdong street.

As mentioned in the previous comments, this subway store gives poor service, and no deep fried potatoes as advertised are provided even after 11 am. The employees lack patience. A better subway store near chungmuro station has a much better service and food.

Worst customer service ever

요즘은 명동성당 전망 있는 카페 많이 가시는 것 같아요. 그런데 명동성당 자체는 육안으로 보고, 오히려 한적하고 규모가 큰 스타벅스 매장이 있습니다.

The cinema is located in a convenient location, especially for tourists who are staying on the near by hotels in Myeongdong. The screen and sound system are ok, but the seats are a bot worn. Still a good place to catch a movie.

Good service, the lady at the counter was very friendly even though I could not speak Korean. Has a Film library. If you're a film student, you're interested in knowing more about film or you just like exploring, this place is has a beautiful yet sadly underrated, under-discovered library space. Has a good selection of film-related books, many are in English and it has a good number of comfortable seating space to relax and read. Worth visiting.

Korea's most biggest cinema franchise CGV's branch nearby Myeongdong station. Neighboring 'CGV Myeongdong' about 200m. They have only 5 screens but since they schedule their timetable with the 'CGV Myeongdong' it's convinient to find a movie you want. A library specialized in movie called Cine Library is located inside.

I sat down in my seat where i realized it wasn't cleaned properly and went back home with sticky shirt and pants!

Perfectly located on the main st of Myundong with plenty to do and see before and after the movie. The theatre was very clean, comfortable seating and a local favorite.

Definitely worth the visit 👍🏻

It's complicated to get to (lots of escalators) but just take the elevator. Has massage chairs and nice waiting are, bathroom is ok. But leaving the theatre is kind of dodgy though...

Reasonable prices, clean amenities, and an excellent location. The screening quality is good, and they have access to the main blockbusters, foreign and Korean.

Downside in my experience this far is the sound didn't seem to have been adjusted for the smaller cinema size, so the volume seemed waaaay louder than I would have preferred.

I went to see Gran Turismo.
It is connected to Lotte Department Store

So...you buy the ticket where they sell the food...it wasnt really obvious lol, i was looking for the self service ticket booth for like 5 minutes, walking around looking like an idiot.
